Images From Here
Site Organization

It may look random to the casual observer but there really IS some loose structure in the way these images are organized. Here's the decoder ring.

There are six very broad categories that were the basis of my original website - Concrete, Water, Earth, Silver, Light and Shadow. I've retained those categories, added one more and then associated each one with a day of the week. All right, maybe that's a little hokey and contrived but it really helps me in the process of trying to decide which images to publish during the week. Anyway, here's what to expect on any given day:

Sunday - Silver - These are black and white shots. Many are older images that were originally shot on 35mm film and have been scanned in from a print or a negative. But there are some new ones as well. Subject matter may vary.

Monday - Concrete - Construction shots for the most part. Recently I've had the good fortune (bad for everybody else) to have a six year highway project going on within a couple of miles of my house. Quite monumental.

Tuesday - Light - Since 'Light' pretty much captures all things photographic I use this category as a catch-all for some of the eclectic images that don't naturally fall into one of the other categories. Think 'Miscellaneous.'

Wednesday - Water - I do have quite a few water shots but I'm not sure how long I can keep coming up with one every week. May have to extend this category to include beer.

Thursday - Earth - This was intended to be primarily nature shots but since I don't shoot that much nature stuff I've decided to include people shots in this category as well. Hey, we're children of the Earth, are we not?

Friday - Photoshop - This is 'Photoshop Phriday' and probably needs some explanation. A lot of people seem to get very distracted by the question of whether a photograph 'has' or 'has not' been digitally altered. Personally, I think it's a ridiculous issue. An artist's job is to manipulate media to create artifacts. As far as I'm concerned, pushing pixels around in Photoshop is no different than dodging and burning in the darkroom, changing your chemistry for different results, using lens filters on your camera or mixing dirt with your paint. But I've made this concession to spare my viewers the discomfort of having to wonder 'did he or didn't he?' Images that have been significantly altered in Photoshop will only be published on Fridays. But I get to make the call. Images that have been subject to routine color corrections, pushed for contrast, cropped, dodged, burned, stroked or called bad names may appear at any time.

Saturday - Shadow - Like 'Light' this is pretty much of an eclectic dumping ground for orphans and oddballs. But I do enjoy chasing shadows.

So that's it, the view behind the curtain. Honestly, I think I have a pathological aversion to trying to define a 'body' of work. I like to bounce around from one subject to another. I prefer the jarring surprise of illogical juxtaposition to the predictable pandering of linear arrangement. Deal with it.
